Meet Josefina Book Club Meeting

Tonight while mom's made hundreds of paper flowers for our float, we discussed Meet Josefina. We talked about Josefina's adventures and how she stood up to her fear of Florecita the goat. What are we afraid of: black widow spiders, snakes, scary roller coasters, roaches, tigers, donkeys, and reared up horses.

We also got to learn about how some women in Mexico prepare wool for weaving -just like Tia Dolores did in our book. Here is a video of Ms. Alisa on a Teacher Expedition to Oaxaca learning to spin wool.

Here are more pictures of women in Oaxaca at the Women's Cooperative: Las Mujeres de "Vida Nueva" showing us all the steps needed to prepare wool for weaving beautiful blankets. We even got to touch a blanket Ms. Rachel brought home that these women made.

There are some
fun games you can play while you learn more about Josefina at the American Girl Website.

Finally, we colored hammered tin suns (another craft straight from Oaxaca).
